Let's talk Crochet!
Today, I am making 10-year-old Liz proud by releasing this scrunchie pattern for FREE! At 10, I had just learned to crochet and thought that all crochet was just dishcloths and afghans. You also could not find me without a scrunchie on my head or wrist (but let's be honest, more often than not, I had one scrunchie holding up my ponytail and one on my wrist for looks).
Flash forward and I am now still loving crochet and obsessed with Tunisian crochet, making much more than just dishclothes! If you are here for the pattern, but are unfamiliar with Tunisian crochet, I suggest you hop on over to Toni from TLYarnCraft's YouTube page, because she has everything you need to know to get started. Another option would be to follow the pattern for the measurements and use a conventional crochet stitch instead of Tunisian Knit Stitch. While the texture will look different, you can still get the same shape and cuteness!
If you post a picture of your scrunchie on Instagram, be sure to use #tksScrunchie and tag @LittleOwlDesigns_ so I can re-post your amazing work!
Ch 50 (or until about 16 inches in length)
Row 1: pull up loops through the back bumps of the chs, Ret
Row 2: TKS across, Ret
Repeat row 2 until your piece is 4 inches tall (mine was 15 rows total)
Sl st across to finish (don't cut yarn)
Take the hair tie and wrap it around the crocheted piece (see picture) so that the wrong side is facing out.
sc evenly across to connect the bottom and the top. Make sure you go through two loops on the bottom and two loops on the top.
Finish off the row and cut the yarn, leaving a tail for seeming
Use your favorite invisible seem method to sew the two ends together. I used the Mattress Stitch to seem mine.
Now go find your walkman and rock out to some Spice Girls or B*Witched while you wear your new Tunisian Knit Stitch Scrunchie! Don't forget, if you post a picture of your scrunchie, be sure to use #tksScrunchie and tag @LittleOwlDesigns_ so I can re-post your amazing work!
